Still not sold on the idea of a pink iPhone? Turns out you may be in the minority on this one. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Rose Gold iPhone 6s is actually the most popular model among pre-orders for the new device.
Kuo notes that between 30 and 40 percent of all pre-orders went to the rose gold iPhone 6s, citing his usual anonymous “supply chain sources.” He also predicted that Apple will sell between 10 and 13 million new iPhones over its opening weekend. Last year the company sold over 10 million devices in the first weekend, though it’s expected to beat that record with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Apple typically announces opening weekend sales the following Monday, so we should know for sure in just a few days. However, the company is unlikely to break down that figure based on color, storage capacity or even between the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. We’ll have to wait for the first unofficial studies to reveal which specific model proved to be the most popular.
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are available today, and it looks like this may be one of Apple’s smoothest product launches ever. Our own Todd Haselton had a particularly easy time picking up his reserved model this morning, though it’s possible the Rose Gold version could sell out soon if Kuo is correct.
