Here’s Samsung’s powerful new Fast Charge Wireless Charging Pad

When Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, one feature that flew under the radar was its support for faster wireless charging. The fact that the devices both supported wireless charging wasn’t really news—its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge supported the technology after all. But with the right wireless charger, owners of Samsung’s new flagships are able to take advantage of the company’s Fast Charge tech without the need for wires.

We actually got our hands on Samsung’s Fast Charge Wireless Charging Pad (that’s a mouth full), and it works exactly as advertised. Just plop your device down on the pad and you’ll be at 100 percent in no time. Samsung says the new pad allows Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus owners to charge up from 0-100 percent by up to 50 minutes faster compared to a regular charging pad. Pretty soon the gap between wired and wireless charging will be closed.

The charger itself is about the size of a hockey puck, both in diameter and in thickness. It’s not the most attractive thing you’ll put on your desk, but this is meant for function over fashion, so how it looks really isn’t an issue. You will notice, however, that the bottom of the charger has several vents to ensure there’s ample airflow from the device’s internal fan. Because the charger is capable of juicing devices up more quickly, it probably generates more heat as a result.

Although the wireless charging pad is specifically meant to work with the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus, it’ll also work with other Qi-enabled devices, including Samsung’s own Galaxy S5, S4, Note 4, Note Edge and Note 5 (some of which require a separate wireless charging battery cover).

If you’re really adamant about wirelessly charging your device, you can pick up Samsung new Fast Charge pad for $69 in white or blue.
