For the past few week’s BlackBerry’s rumored Android phone has been making the rounds online under the codename “Venice,” but it turns out the real name could be even weirder. A fresh leak claims to reveal what the company may actually end up calling its upcoming slider handset.
At retail, Venice transforms into the… BlackBerry Priv

According to Evan Blass, who’s proven himself as a gadget leaker on Twitter under the pseudonym @EvLeaks, the new phone is officially called the BlackBerry Priv. We don’t really understand the name. Is it a shortened take on the word Privacy? That seems likely, though it still sounds a bit weird. Either way the rumor seems pretty conclusive, with N4BB quickly backing up the news in its own report.
The BlackBerry Priv is expected to run a pretty clean version of Android with some extra apps and a few tweaks. The device could also offer high-end hardware, including a slide-out physical keyboard, a 5.4-inch display, an 18-megapixel rear camera and a Snapdragon 808 processor.
There’s still no word on when BlackBerry plans to unveil the Priv, though considering the current rate of leaks it probably won’t take too long. The company’s CEO is set to speak at Re/code’s upcoming conference in early October. It’s possible the device could be revealed onstage during the event, though a stand-alone press conference seems more likely.
