Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic writer Drew Karpyshyn has returned to BioWare after four years of a sabbatical. During that time, he took to writing The Chaos Born novel trilogy, and now that he is finished, he’s right back to work on video games.

And where else is better? Drew Karpyshyn is reportedly working on Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare’s up-and-running MMORPG. He has confirmed that there are no new projects to his name, and he doesn’t mention working on the new Mass Effect in any way on his blog post.

Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team. The thing I missed most about BioWare was the amazing people I got to work with, and luckily for me many of them are still there! I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and – at least for now – that’s what I’m focusing on again.

“At least for now…” Listen, I like Star Wars as much as the next pathetic meatbag, but Mass Effect is part of the future of original science-fiction video game universes. Why not give that a glance?
