We use Skype almost every day around here, so we immediately noticed when the service was down this morning. It’s unclear why Skype is down, but Microsoft promises that it’s working on a quick fix.

There are a number of problems you might notice. If you’re able to log in, for example, you may see some or all of your contacts offline. Or you might see them online, but you won’t be able to actually connect if you try to call them. Likewise, you won’t be able to change your own status. Skype said that messages are mostly working OK, but a “small number of messages to group chats are not being delivered.” The company also noted that the Skype Community websites are not loading properly.

Microsoft hasn’t said what’s causing the outage. “We’re doing everything we can to fix this issue and hope to have another update for you soon,” the company said in a blog post. “Thank you for your patience as we work to get this incident resolved.”
