Film Fondue: The antagonist of Suicide Squad isn’t who you expect

You can’t argue: Nickelodeon in the 90s was by far the network’s heyday. Not only did the channel air some of the most beloved cartoons, but it had some great sitcoms, too; Salute your Shorts, Hey, Dude!, Keenan and Kel, and so on. If you missed out on this era, I sincerely hope you find a way to consume these gems, because they were among the best content any network has put out. Ever.

Lucky for you, Nickelodeon is planning to bring some of its old shows back in a new programming block called The Splat! Such a Nickelodeon name. If this become something I can subscribe to, I’m doing it. No question.

Enough with the nostalgia.

This week was pretty packed with trailers, rumors, set photos and more. We already knew Rogue One filming was underway, but the content of the set photos were quite the surprise. And we’re still not sure how we feel about the trailer for Disney’s The Jungle Book.

We’re quickly approaching the end of the year, which also mean the new Star Wars is almost out. That’s pretty much the only movie left this year we’re really dying to see. Only three more months. THREE MONTHS.

Wonder Woman baddies

With Wonder Woman filming set to begin in November, Warner Bros. is apparently in a scramble to finalize casting. According to Heroic Hollywood, Sean Bean and Eva Green have been approached for villains roles in the upcoming superhero flick; Bean would play Ares, while Green would play Sorceress. Enchantress the main villain in Suicide Squad

Judging by the first Suicide Squad trailer, it looked like The Joker would be the film’s big baddie. But according to Heroic Hollywood, it’s actually Enchantress who is the movie’s biggest threat. Apparently she tries to use her powers to resurrect her dead brother, who she then uses to try and destroy the world. [HeroicHollywood]

Rachel McAdams will star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange

While doing press in Toronto, Rachel McAdams confirmed that she’ll star in Doctor Strange opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. After Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange is the next on Marvel’s slate in 2016. [TheWrap]

Christopher Nolan involved in Akira trilogy

Warner Bros. has reportedly approached Christopher Nolan to produce an Akira trilogy. But who knows. This project has been floating around for years and years, so anytime we hear something new we’re immediately skeptical. It sure sounds great, what with Christopher Nolan being involved, but let’s not get too excited just yet. [DenofGeek]

Deadpool, Gambit and X-Men crossover

Simon Kinberg, longtime producer in the X-Men universe, wants a huge crossover between Gambit and Deadpool. Kinberg said the timeline after Days of Future Past has been reset, allowing filmmakers to toy with one big continuity. I mean, sure. But the last time Deadpool was in the X-Men universe, things didn’t go so well. [MTV]

The Walking Dead season 6 photos

Set to return on Oct. 11, a handful of new images from the upcoming season of The Walking Dead have been released. Daryl, Morgan, Carl, Rick and more are all looking pretty grim, which is no surprise given the tragic events of last season. Check them out above. [Variety]

Pacific Rim 2 delayed indefinitely

We were originally promised a 2017 release for Pacific Rim 2, but The Hollywood Reporter says the project has been put on hold indefinitely. The first film wrapped in satisfying fashion, so a sequel isn’t really necessary. But with Godzilla seemingly set to clash with King Kong, it would have been awesome to see Pacific Rim involved somewhere down the road as well. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like that will happen. At least not anytime soon. [HollywoodReporter]

Man of Steel 2 plot

Last we heard Man of Steel 2 wasn’t happening, and now a new report claims it is. In fact, Heroic Hollywood apparently has relevant plot details, which involved Kara Zor-El and Brainiac. Yeah, no, probably not. Also Bizarro will be involved, too, which sounds pretty bonkers. At this point, who knows if Man of Steel 2 will ever be a thing. [HeroicHollywood]

Stick will return to Daredevil season 2

Wilson Fisk was a monster and deserved his fate. But the guy I really disliked in Marvel’s Daredevil was Stick, a militaristic hardass who helped hone Matt Murdock’s skills. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Stick was great, and it was nice to see the showrunners were faithful to the comic character. But, man, he was just the worst. We’ll see if he softens any in season 2, but we doubt it. [Marvel]
