Here’s Apple’s beautiful new iPhone Lightning Dock

You can’t have a new iPhone without a new Lightning Dock. At last week’s event, Apple quietly introduced a handful of new accessories for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and this here dock was among them. Sure, Apple didn’t need to introduce new dock since its old one will work out just fine, but the company just couldn’t help itself.

The dock, as is immediately clear, is incredibly simple. It’s essentially just a slab of aluminum with a male lightning connector sticking out. This thing is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible with no overt branding, and it hardly takes up any space at all. On the back is a Lightning port and 3.5mm headphone jack, and that’s about it. There seems to be enough of a buffer between phone and connector, so some slim cases should be fine, including Apple’s own lineup of leather and silicone options.

The thing about Apple’s dock is that the small Lightning port supports the entire weight of your iPhone, which seems like an easy way to break the connector off. Still, the dock feels incredibly durable, and perfectly matches Apple’s preference for aluminum. You can pick one up from Apple in silver, gold, space gray and rose gold for $49.
