Star Ocean 5 TGS 2015 trailer – Where sci-fi and fantasy clash

by Ron Duwell | September 16, 2015September 16, 2015 4:30 pm PDT

Star Ocean doesn’t have the same sort of prestige attached to its name as Square Enix’s other JRPG franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. However, the series has been second to none in establishing itself as the best JRPG franchise on the market to blend traditional fantasy elements with a grand space opera tale.

Generally, these games revolve around our hero being a fish out of water space pilot or officer, trapped on an underdeveloped planet. Let’s not forget, trapped in a generic JRPG script as well. Star Ocean doesn’t push the boundaries of storytelling in the least, but there is a consistency to its style which makes it one of the more dependable franchises from the genre.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, the fifth main entry in the series, is looking to put the series back on its feet after the fourth game nearly derailed it. The new Tokyo Game Show 2015 trailer shows off dramatic moments we haven’t seen yet and introduces a few new faces. Unfortunately, we don’t have an English translation just yet, but we might not have to wait long for one.

Square Enix confirmed that the game will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on Feb. 25, 2016, so more than likely, we’ll be blasting through this adventure next summer in North America. However, only the PlayStation 4 option will be available to us.
