‘Rogue One’ set photos show off dead Stormtroopers

It was going to happen sooner or later. As Lucasfilm gets closer to releasing Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December, the first set photos for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have hit the internet. And what a destructive scene it is.

We don’t know the exact context of the scene, but it sure looks like that ship there has been shot down—and are those Stormtroopers lying dead on the beach? Gruesome, violent, grim. Not words you usually associate with Star Wars.

With multiple Star Wars films set to come out over the next several years, including a few spinoff movies, there will be no rest for the weary over at Lucasfilm. In fact, alongside Rogue One, Lucasfilm has already confirmed that filming for Episode VIII will begin soon in Ireland, and will likely continue over the next few months. How long until we see set pictures from that?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will focus on a group of Rebel fighters who attempt to steal plans for the Death Star. Gareth Edwards, who is directing the movie, has already revealed that the film will be similar to war movies, and likely won’t feature many of the familiar Star Wars tropes fans know and love. You can get a glimpse of the cast in the gallery above, along with the set pictures straight from London.
