StarCraft II‘s final expansion, Legacy of the Void, finally has a release date and a gorgeous new trailer to go with it.
This has been a long time coming. Blizzard releases games when it’s good and ready, and when StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty hit in 2010, we knew there’d be a bigger wait than most episodic games. The second part, Heart of the Swarm, released in 2013, and finally we know for sure that Legacy of the Void will hit this year, concluding what is technically the second part of the StarCraft series.
The eSports landscape that made the original StarCraft so popular has changed wildly since StarCraft II began its five year release cycle, with MOBA games like League of Legends and Dota 2 taking a huge chunk of viewer mindshare, so it’s hard to imagine Blizzard continuing with a third game in the series from here without some serious changes. It might be a bit too early to think about that, though. The team probably wants to work on something else for a while.
They’ll be able to start thinking about that when StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void releases for PC on November 10.
