Apple: iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cases will fit new models

Although the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus look identical to last year’s models, the devices are slightly larger to account for the upgraded internals and new 7000 series aluminum. As a result, there’s been some confusion as to whether or not cases designed for last year’s handsets would properly fit the new devices. According to Apple, they will.

Granted, they might be a little more snug, but you should have no problem using Apple’s leather and silicone cases with the company’s new flagship devices. In fact, Apple says customers will have a plethora of new options when the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus hit, expanding its case portfolio with more colors. And, yes, any case meant for Apple’s new iPhones will be compatible with last year’s.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were 0.27-inches thick and 0.28-inches thick, respectively, while the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are 0.28-inches thick and 0.29-inches thick. When people learned the new devices would be bigger, many voiced their displeasure and thought it was a ploy by Apple to sell more accessories. But you can rest easy know that’s not the case. Pun not intended.

It’s unclear if third-party cases will fit, but chances are they’ll be A-OK. We have a few leather iPhone cases sitting around here somewhere, so we’ll be sure to check and see if they fit once we get our hands on Apple’s new phones.
