Fallout 4 to get full mod tools, mods definitely heading to PlayStation 4

Fallout 4 is two months away. Developer Bethesda Softworks has been careful about letting too many more cats out of the bag following its big E3 unveiling, but this week they detailed how paid and free downloadable content will work for the upcoming post-apocalyptic everything simulator. We know they’ve got a comprehensive season pass – really more like a lifetime pass – on the way, as well as some free updates, but they’ve also got some pretty big mod tools on the way.

Early 2016 will see the release of the Creation Kit for the PC. This is the same tool the team uses in the studio – news that should be somewhat of a relief to PC gamers disappointed by The Witcher 3‘s lackluster toolkit.  The mods will hit PC first, then Xbox One, which we’d already heard. The mods will then eventually be available on PlayStation 4.

This was assumed previously, but I don’t believe it’d been confirmed quite so explicitly by Bethesda, and ensures that players on all three platforms can look forward to roughly the same experience. With such a wide audience and deep toolkit, Fallout 4 is likely to have a vibrant mod community, and everyone gets to experience it.

Fallout 4 hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 10.
