The Behemoth has a nice surprise for fans of one of the original indie game mega-hits, Castle Crashers. Originally it was announced that a remastered version would be made exclusive for the Xbox One audience, and that promise has been fulfilled with a release date announced for this week.

Xbox One owners will be able to purchase Castle Crashers Remastered on Sept. 9 for $14.99. Those who already own the original Castle Crashers can snag it up for free by Sept. 20. The catch is that you’ll need an Xbox Live Gold Membership to be eligible for the free copy. Afterwards, the game will only cost $4.99.

The updated version will include:

  • New multiplayer mini-game called Back Off Barbarian
  • Five times larger texture sizes than the original!
  • Twice the framerate of the original! (60 frames per second)
  • Performance updates, gameplay tweaks
  • Online multiplayer performance updates
  • Ability to find games easier and quicker online

A Steam version is also planned, but hasn’t begun development yet. The Behemoth expects that to start before the end of the year.
