Android Pay will launch “in the next few weeks,” according to a new teaser discovered inside the Google Wallet app for Android. The new mobile payments service was first announced at Google I/O back in late May, but Google is yet to confirm when exactly it will arrive.
Android Pay is Google’s answer to Apple Pay, and it’s going to have a big impact on those already using Google Wallet, which will become much more useful and easier to use. To inform users of this, Google has introduced a popup notice inside its Wallet app for Android.
“In the next few weeks, Wallet’s most popular features will move to 2 simpler apps,” the notice reads, confirming Android Pay’s arrival is now imminent. This follow an earlier leak from Verizon that suggests the service will debut in mid-September.
It certainly seems like Android Pay is not too far away now, then. We expected to find out more about its release at Google’s rumored September 29 event, when the search giant is to announce its new Nexus smartphones — but it would appear the service will be live two weeks prior to that.
