Film Fondue: New Star Wars posters, Jaws reboot, and Iron Giant 2

by Brandon Russell | September 5, 2015September 5, 2015 8:00 am PDT

Summer is in the rearview, which means it’s time to get down to business at the tail end of 2015. Some big movies are still set for a release this year, lead by Disney’s much anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

While that’s on our minds, Disney has finally released merchandise for the film, kicking of “Force Friday” with a ton of awesome new toys. We were actually lucky enough to get our hands on several of the figures, including Kylo Ren, the villain in The Force Awakens. Our best score, however, was Sphero’s BB-8, the cute Droid you’ve seen in the trailers.

Aside from all the Star Wars hoopla this week, there was plenty of juicy entertainment news, including some rumors out of the Marvel camp. With Captain America: Civil War on the horizon, we’re still getting a pretty good dosage of news and leaks, and this week’s focused on Spider-Man’s method for shooting his web.

Now that we’re in the fall season, we’re expecting the rumor mill to ramp up considerably. Even better, we’re expecting to see some big trailers, including a new one for The Force Awakens, Captain America: Civil War and even Warcraft, which is scheduled for a release next year.

Steven Spielberg might reboot Jaws

In an article about a possible Dreamworks/Universal merge, The Hollywood Reporter casually claims the director is keen on a Jaws reboot. The franchise has kind of been exhausted at this point, but who doesn’t love movies about gigantic animals ripping humans to shreds? Could make for a good Syfy flick. [HollywoodReporter]

Nickelodeon might revive classic shows

The heyday of Nickelodeon was in the 90s, when it aired shows like Rugrats, Doug, Hey Arnold, and Rocko’s Modern Life. Now the channel is mulling the possibility of bringing these shows back “in a fresh new way.” [Variety]

New posters for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

During the madness of Force Friday, a handful of new posters were released, though they don’t reveal anything new. Still, they’re incredibly awesome. And that’s all that needs to be said.

Beasts of No Nation trailer

Netflix has had a great year with its lineup of original content, and it’s going to get even better with Beasts of No Nation. This will be the service’s first feature-length movie, the trailer of which you can see below. The movie will hit the service on Oct. 16.

Goosebumps 2 on the way

Goosebumps hasn’t even come out yet, but Sony is already anxious to begin working on a sequel. Will this turn out to be as successful as the books? Guess we’ll find out when the first movie hits theaters on Oct. 16.

Iron Giant 2?

With Iron Giant being re-released in theaters, could Warner Bros. be gearing up to announce a sequel? Vin Diesel thinks so; he recently said that people shouldn’t be surprised if WB announces something in the future.
