Is your car feeling a bit drab? Looking to make some quick to moderate upgrades to get more tech infused in your car? Does your car even Bluetooth? What about a rear/back-up camera? Do you know how many MPGs your car is getting these days? Here’s some ideas, gadgets and goods that will get your car upgraded to be the envy of your friends.
How about throwing down some dough on a some new audio equipment? You don’t have to spend thousands, you could, but you don’t have to. Maybe swap out your speakers? Maybe a new subwoofer? This may not be the most easiest upgrade. If you think a tweeter has something to do with social media, you may want to reach out for some professional help.
Maybe while you’re at upgrading your audio equipment you may consider swapping out that old tape deck for a new in-dash audio/entertainment/navigation system. Maybe one that even can support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Your car dash today can be much more than a radio, it can be your navigation, entertainment, and communication hub. It is capable of doing so much. Plus, you deserve it.
Each year 15,000 injuries and 210 deaths occur in back-up accidents. This was serious enough of a problem that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires backup cameras in all new cars built after May 2018. If you car doesn’t have one, maybe you should consider getting a back-up camera installed. A bunch of aftermarket products allow you to snap on a camera on the back of your car and you can view a live video through a small mounted monitor, rearview mirror/display, or even through the dash.
Rearview cameras are becoming more popular, but what about the front of your car? Have you considered a dashcam? It’s not just for crazy Russian car accident videos on YouTube. They seem pretty easy to install and pretty straight forward to operate. Plug them in, turn them on and go. Hopefully you’ll never need it, but at least you know it will be there if you do.
What about a new alarm system to keep your valuables and car safe?
Maybe a new dock to secure your phone while driving, it keeps it from falling on the floor keeping your phone, car and most importantly you and your passengers safe from distractions.
You may want to consider investing in wireless charging dock. If your phone is compatible, just throw in a compatible charging dock. If not, get one that works with a charging dock case. Keep in mind to use one that has a non-slip grip or a magnetic one to keep it from jostling while driving. Once you have it installed you’ll be ready to have wireless charging on the go.
Do you know what you car is thinking? Did you know you car has a brain? A computer brain at least, and it is filled with a ton of data. You may want to check how your car’s mileage is fairing, or why that check engine is going off. Will it pass its next smog check? These diagnostic readers will plug right into your car and some will even allow you to read them through your phone via bluetooth.
Speaking of bluetooth, your car should have it. Everything seems to be bluetooth enabled nowadays and so should your car. Depending on the tech, you can use it to connect your car’s audio so you can listen to your favorite tunes off Spotify or Pandora, you can use them make calls or verbally text your friends. Best of all it should free you hands for what they really should be doing: DRIVING.
In short, there are tons of gadgets that can improve your existing car in small ways. Now it’s just a matter of choosing which ones best suit you.
