Mega Man comic

Looks like someone at Capcom is giving Mega Man the old heave-ho back into the limelight. First, he turns up in Super Smash Bros. and gets an amiibo, then we get an excellent compilation of his fist six games. Next, we learn that a new animated series will be airing in 2017, and now, Fox has announced plans to make a motion picture. Yes, a full-on Mega Man movie!

The who, what, where, why, and how have yet to be announced, but an exclusive story over at The Tracking Board confirms that Fox Entertainment and Cherrin Entertainment have teamed up to bring the Blue Bomber to the big screen.

With promising Assassin’s Creed, Warcraft, and Ratchet & Clank films possibly bringing a bit of credibility back into video game movies, this looks like an early attempt to jump on that bandwagon with a recognizable video game character. Mega Man is loved by all who have played his games, and he should be loved by everyone beyond as well! You heard me! Get with it!

The big question is how will they go about this? An animated feature seems inevitable, maybe something like the Astro Boy flick from a few years back, but will it be “kiddy?” Most likely. Will it be, you know, “good?” Possibly. Whatever screenwriters FOX snags up already have a blueprint for successful Mega Man stories woven into the pages of the excellent Archie comics.

Now the comic’s cancellation makes a lot more sense, too!

The biggest question of all, of course, is will all this attention lead into a new Mega Man video game. You know… Mega Man 11? On his 30th anniversary which is in 2017? Hint hint…
