Hear Kylo Ren talk for the very first time in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

One thing that’s been absent from the first few Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers has been any form of dialogue. Aside from the whole, “Have you felt it?” narration, only Han Solo has spoken, which means we don’t know what the new characters will sound like.

That may not seem like a big deal, but it helps us get a better understanding of the characters; their personalities, motivations, etc. Luckily, during the madness of last night’s worldwide Star Wars unboxing event, a few toys that were released included dialogue, revealing some new plot points about the film.

The three talking character include Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma and Finn, all of whom are completely new to the Star Wars universe. First up let’s quickly talk about Ren’s dialogue, which you can hear for yourself in the video below. He has a slightly synthesized voice, but otherwise it sounds like actor Adam Driver.

I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.

Been waiting for what? We still don’t really know much about Ren’s origins, despite learning from J.J. Abrams that he’s a Darth Vader fanatic. Is it possible he’s talking about meeting Luke Skywalker, who might be one of the last remaining Jedi?

Is it true… you’re just a scavenger?

This one is pretty obvious; we know that Daisy Ridley’s Rey is a scavenger on Jakku, so it’s clear Ren is talking to her. Based on what he says, he has already heard of her, though we don’t know from whom and in what context. In the trailer, the hand off of Anakin’s lightsaber might have been to her, which means he could be confronting Rey about that.

Don’t be afraid.

When a villain tells you not to be afraid, you should be very, very afraid.

I feel it too.

In the trailers, the narrator talks about an “awakening,” so Ren’s line could be a response to that.

You know what I’ve come for.

Again, he could be talking to Rey about Anakin’s lightsaber (see dialogue below). If he is a Darth Vader fanatic and has based his outfit and whole existence on him, then he’ll no doubt want the weapon to complete his persona.

Don’t fight it… you know you can’t.

Not sure who he’s talking to here. There have been rumors that Rey is also Force sensitive, so Ren could be referring to that. Why is she fighting against it?

I’m immune to the light.

Likely referring to his preference for the Dark Side, stating his inability to be a good person.

That weapon is mine.

See above.

Together, we will destroy the resistance and the last Jedi.

Ren is on a mission. It’s unclear who he is talking to, but he doesn’t take too kindly to folks on the Light Side. Following the events of Return of the Jedi, we’re not really sure how many Jedi are left, but Luke has apparently been in hiding for the last 30 years, so are we to believe that he’s the only one?

The dialogue from Finn and Captain Phasma is decidedly less exciting, so we won’t go into so much detail, but you can see what the characters say below. Needless to say, we couldn’t be more excited, making the three and a half month wait until the film’s release that much more grueling.

  • “To your ships, now.”
  • “On my command.”
  • “Fire FM 2187.”
  • “Submit your blaster for inspection.”

  • “The name’s Finn and I’m in charge now”
  • “We go back to Jakku, we die” (shouting)
  • “Stay low and put up the shields” (shouting)
  • “We need cover – quick!” (shouting)
  • “FS2187” (shouting)
  • “I don’t…know what…to do!” (screaming, funny line?)
  • “I never should have rescued you!” (shouting)
  • “Listen, I’ve had a pretty messed up day!”
