When Naughty Dog finally announced the release date for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End earlier this week, one surprise that came out of that was that Uncharted will receive a single player story expansion for the first time in the series.
Speaking at the ongoing GameStop Expo, transcribed by Gamespot, Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer explained a bit about why.
“It worked really well for us for The Last of Us. We thought we could put together a really great piece of content as well [for Uncharted 4].”
The idea of single player DLC for the series isn’t new for this game, but Meyer says this is the first time they could make it work.
“I think we rose to the challenge for The Last of Us, so we decided we’re going to take another shot at it,” he said.
If the story DLC is anything like Left Behind was for The Last of Us, then this is something to look forward to. Left Behind was both something that stood apart from the main story – it wouldn’t have fit into the original game – and a touching, affecting bit of character development for Ellie. Something even half as effective is going to be worth checking out.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End hits PlayStation 4 on March 18, 2016.
