When the Apple Watch first launched plenty of companies raced to offer their own half-baked smartwatch apps. Then there’s Airbnb, which took its time releasing an Apple Watch app that we’d actually want to use. The new app is designed to ease communication between renters and guests. Basically, it’s a messaging app with a few extra features.
“Our hosts want to deliver personal hospitality to every guest, and messaging through Airbnb for Apple Watch app is one of the first and fastest ways they can create a long-lasting connection.” said Alex Schleifer, the company’s head of design.
If you’re an Airbnb renter you’ll see booking requests pop up on your wrist along with a name, photo and message. You can even accept or reject each offer on the Apple Watch with a few quick taps. Meanwhile, guests can use the app to contact their hosts with any questions or issues during their stay.
The app lets you program your own pre-written answers. One obvious example is the Wi-Fi password, which can be pretty annoying to type out every time a guest asks for it. You can also use the Apple Watch microphone to respond to messages with your voice.
Airbnb notes that it actually enjoyed working with the Apple Watch’s restricting constraints. The app will still get an update later this fall once WatchOS 2 arrives, though it may not change very much.
