Star Wars Battlefront will be getting an online beta test across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms in early October.
EA confirms that the test will incorporate several online gameplay modes including a traditional massive map allowing up to 40 players at a time to take part in the Battle of Hoth. Players will get to play as nameless soldiers, defending the rebel base or assaulting it as nameless Imperial soldiers, and Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker will also be available for a test run as well.
The beta will also incorporate a smaller survival mission on Tatooine in which two rebel friends will work together to fend off waves of Imperials. A final new mode will also be tested is called Drop Zone, but EA is holding back the details on that one.
And EA has announced a new plan called the Star Wars Battlefront Companion, a kind of strategic online card battle that can be played alongside the beta test though iOS and Android. Playing this online will score in-game credits in the main game, unlocking weapons and other content. Hooray for companion apps!
No word on how to sign up just yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out. Star Wars Battlefront launches on Nov. 17 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
