Huawei Nexus leaked case includes camera hump, fingerprint reader cutout

Smartphones keep getting thinner, and their cameras keep getting better. You might think that’s a good thing, but for design-focused shoppers there’s a pretty big downside. The camera hump is becoming increasingly common, and Huawei’s upcoming nexus phablet is no exception.

Earlier leaked renders and images of the device all suggested the stock Android phone could sport a pretty big bump in back where the camera sits. Now, photos of an alleged case for the upcoming device seem to confirm this design detail. We also see a round cutout on the back of the device where a fingerprint reader will likely sit.

There’s no denying that most camera humps look pretty ugly, though we don’t really mind it if the result is better photos. Of course, in most cases it seems like the phone-maker could add a bit of bulk in the form of a bigger battery. That would solve two potential issues at once.

Huawei’s new Nexus is rumored to pack a 21-megapixel camera in back. We’re also expecting a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, a high-end Snapdragon chip, a 3500mAh battery, a USB-C port, wireless charging, and pure Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Google also seems to be working with LG on a smaller Nexus phone allegedly set to launch in late September. Hopefully Huawei’s stock Android phablet will arrive at around the same time.
