It was only a matter of time, really. One of the media members with a review copy of Super Mario Maker took it upon themselves to do what needed to be done. They created a level specifically to Rick Roll players.
It starts out with the promise of every amiibo costume unlocked in a single level, thanks to its title. The player is shot down a conveyor belt, made impossible to move and cruises all the way to the end of the stage. While that happens, enemies hit musical note blocks arranged to the tune of “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.
It’s the first full on Rick Roll made in the game, though assuredly it won’t be the last.
The bad news? The review copies of Super Mario Maker will only work with the review server. That means players won’t have access to this level, or any of the levels made during this period, when the game launches. Nintendo indicated a few times in communication that the content cannot be transferred over.
Super Mario Maker will launch for the Wii U on Sept. 11, 2015. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
