The Legend of Legacy is back this week introducing us to two more of its characters. Last week, we met the amnesiac beauty Monica and the wandering elementalist Meurs. Today, we get a gander at two more fantasy mainstays, a devoted Templar knight named Garnet and a carefree treasure hunter by the name of Liber.
Sure, we aren’t straying too far from conventions here. I’m sure we could look at the cast of Final Fantasy VI, for example, and find some corresponding archetypes for these guys, but it’s the underpinnings of The Legend of Legacy that set it apart from other JRPGs. The open-ended gameplay, the battle system quirks, the inspiration it takes from the genre’s bad-boy, SaGa.
It can be superficially generic all it wants, but as long as it has those oddities lingering under the surface, I’m all set. Plus, I’m looking forward to seeing our froggy friend finally get his English trailer. Maybe next week.
A treasure hunter with a penchant for danger, and also profiting off said danger, Liber is coming to Avalon not for a noble cause, but rather to line his pockets.
Being the resourceful adventurer, Liber is one of the strongest supports in the game and excels with bare fists, short swords, and spears. Plus, Liber has a strong affinity for the wind element.
A trained templar knight, Garnet is loyal to her holy order, and is exploring Avalon to stamp out the heretics spreading blasphemous rumors about gods returning to the mortal realm.
Garnet has balanced offense and defense, making her versatile in party formations. She prefers long swords and shields, and she doesn’t have any elemental affinities at all.
The Legend of Legacy launches on Oct. 13 for the Nintendo 3DS. Check out the full cast’s artwork in the gallery below.
