Nintendo 64 classics Turok and Turok 2 being remastered for PC

Okay, I’m quite sure nobody asked for these, but I’ll roll with it. The Nintendo 64 classic first-person shooters Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil are getting unexpected remasters for the PC from Night Dive Studios.

The remasters will improve upon the originals with “enhanced graphics and other improvements,” probably hinting at an upgrade in resolution, frame rate, and hopefully draw distance. These old Turok games are about as muddy as they come, but the fog helps hide the rather empty level designs and creates tension for when a dinosaur might jump out.

When Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was first released it was nothing short of revolutionary. To that point, no game had ever offered the combination of graphics and an open world environment that Turok featured. We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring this great franchise back to life and to be able to share these great titles with today’s gaming audience.

For what it’s worth, the original Turok games were some of the best products ever published by the ill-fated Acclaim. Much of what we love about them is pure nostalgia, and they are really hard to get back into these days. However, they are still top of their class when it comes to weapon design and over-the-top ways to kill enemies. Only Ratchet & Clank and the guys at Insomniac have ever come up with more legendary firearms.

It might be a breath of fresh air for the FPS genre to see such originality in the weapon design… coming from a 20 year old video game .
