Rumor has it Microsoft will unveil the Surface Pro 4 at a hardware-focused event in October. Now a new report suggests the company could actually have two new tablets in the pipeline for later this year.
According to DigiTimes, both Microsoft and Amazon are set to announce big new tablets in the second half of 2015. The new Surface will allegedly be available with a 12-inch display or a larger screen measuring between 13 and 14 inches across. Meanwhile, a new 12-inch Fire tablet could arrive in limited numbers, though Amazon still puts a bigger emphasis on its smaller 7 and 8-inch slates.
Microsoft already offers a 12-inch display with the Surface Pro 3, but it looks like the rest of the industry may be catching up. Apple is expected to announced the iPad Pro this fall with a 12.9-inch screen, and now we’re learning that Amazon might follow suit as well. In that case, it makes sense for the Microsoft to push forward with an even bigger Surface if it wants to hold onto its advantage in that larger-screened market.
The Redmond-based company is also expected to announce two new Windows 10 smartphones, a second-generation Microsoft Band and a few more surprises at its rumored October event. Throw in a pair of Surface tablets and we should be in store for a pretty exciting presentation.
