iPhone 6c case prototype hints at possible new design

Desperate for a look at the rumored iPhone 6c? A new image claims to reveal the device’s design, though we’re not seeing the phone itself. Instead, a fresh picture from MicGadget may show a paper prototype used by casemakers.

The photo depicts what could be the back of the iPhone 6c case, with planned cutouts for the rear camera, flash and a small microphone. It’s the exact same layout as the iPhone 6, though presumably with a smaller 4-inch display. Of course it’s possible this entire leak is a fake, so we wouldn’t get too excited just yet.

Based on previous rumors we’re expecting the iPhone 6c to pack a similar overall design to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but with the same screen size as the iPhone 5. It may also offer a fingerprint reader and NFC, making it possible to use Apple Pay on the smaller smartphone.

It’s still unclear when the iPhone 6c will arrive, though one recent report suggested the device could launch in November. Then again, earlier rumors claimed the 6c could debut as soon as September or as late as next year. At the end of the day, the upcoming small iPhone is still a mystery, but at least this new leak brings us one step closer to the actual device.
