Samsung surprised us earlier this month with a quick look at the Gear S2 during its Unpacked event. The company has since teased the device a few more times online, but now we’re getting an even closer look at the upcoming smartwatch.
The image above comes from Dennis Miloseski, Samsung’s U.S. design chief, and shows the Gear S2 wrapped around his wrist. The device looks great, though perhaps a bit bulky. We also see what looks like a pair of buttons to the right of the display. We’re expecting the new smartwatch to sport a rotating bezel for navigation, though that’s still just a rumor until we see the Gear S2 in action.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, the Gear S2 will run what looks like a pretty nice version of Tizen, though Samsung doesn’t have the best track record designing its own smartwatch software. Still, the watch face in this photo manages to pack in a good amount of information without becoming too crowded. Earlier teasers also revealed circular icons and a weather app.
Samsung is all set to unveil the Gear S2 next month at IFA 2015, though the company will face some tough competition at the Berlin trade show. We’re also expecting new entries from Motorola and LG, along with announcements from Asus and Huawei. It’s unclear if the Gear S2 will be able to standout among a crowd of fresh devices, though that beautiful design will definitely give it an edge.
