Retailer takes Kojima/Konami situation into its own hands

The rebellion of clever store managers continues in the face of video game controversies. Earlier this month, a bookstore chain let the Internet know what it thinks about last years’ abysmal Assassin’s Creed launch, and now a retailer down in Sydney, Australia has no problem standing up for Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima in his PR spat with publisher Konami.

As it has become well known by now, Konami erased Hideo Kojima’s name branding from the box cover following what it called the reshuffling of departments. Much of the gaming world, and indeed several people who have personally worked with Hideo Kojima, blame it on the famed developer being fired from the company.

Well… this retailer isn’t having any of that, and its Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain display shelf lets its customers know who made this game.

Not altogether clever, but it’s nice to know that not everyone in the gaming industry is bound by the same silence. Well played.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on Sept. 1.
