Inti Create’s excellent run-and-gun platformer Azure Striker Gunvolt, the one I still feel is going to be better than Mighty No. 9, is finally freeing itself from exclusivity on the Nintendo 3DS. The game will be launching on Steam at some point this week for the price of $14.99.
This version promises to be more complete than the Nintendo 3DS version we’ve already received in the States. Azure Striker Gunvolt on Steam will include the Japanese version, meaning our hero’s controversial midriff will be returning his bellybutton to full prominence, and it will have the full Japanese voice acting with the English subtitles.
Other new features include a new speed-running mode, obviously a new screen resolution, two-screen play, and more updates within the first six months
If you haven’t checked out Azure Striker Gunvolt on the Nintendo 3DS, then this is a totally viable option. The game has a few issues like overly-basic platforming, but it’s one of the best throwbacks to classic Japanese action games around. Check out my full review for more thoughts.
And if you play it now, you’ll be just in time for the sequel that is in development at Inti Creates right now. Between Azure Striker Gunvolt, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Mighty No. 9, and aiding with Shantae, the company is really proving itself to be a reliable programming squad and quite a rising star on the Japanese gaming scene. Keep an eye on these guys.
