Well, well, well. It was a relatively quiet week, but who wants to try and make noise following an action-packed D23? We managed to attend some of the big conferences, and Disney definitely didn’t disappoint. In addition to some beautiful footage from Disney Animation and Pixar, Marvel also showed off an early Civil War sizzle reel.
The rumor this week is the one you see directly below this post. Furiosa was basically the star of Fury Road, so I wouldn’t exactly call it a spin-off per se. But given how awesome she was in the last movie, she deserves her own movie. No Max. No Immortan Joe. Just Furiosa being a badass.
There were also a few new trailers, including one for an eerie horror film known as The Witch. There have been a lot of interesting horror films lately, but none have looked quite so unsettling. The trailer leaves a lot of questions, but that’s the point. What is tormenting this family? You have to watch the movie to find out.
Mad Max: Furiosa spin-off
Following the amazing critical response to George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, the inevitable sequel talks are sure to crop up. And while Miller has already stated he has ideas, one being floated at Warner Bros. is particularly juicy. In addition to a film called The Wasteland, there might also be a spin-off about Furiosa herself. One could argue she was the titular star of the last film anyway, but a spin-off film with just her would certainly cement the character as a cornerstone of the Mad Max franchise. [Deadline]
Captain America: Civil War photo
Have you seen the new Civil War photo of Winter Soldier and Falcon? The two are running… either toward or away from something; it’s difficult to tell what going on, but Falcon sure looks determined. Spectators and those involved with the shoot are casually looking on from behind, as if nothing is out of the ordinary. If you’re privy to new memes, you will have seen this photo re-imagined in a lot of hilarious ways. [Bild]
Sabretooth in Wolverine 3
First Professor X, and now Sabretooth. In a recent interview with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman said a lot of people have voiced their hope that Victor Creed will appear in the upcoming film; berserker rage is another popular term being thrown around Wolverine Land. Just because Jackman mentions them doesn’t mean they’ll be in the movie. Sabretooth is a familiar character, though we haven’t quite see Wolverine hit the berserker rage state yet. [IGN]
Spider-Man on Civil War set
The new Spider-Man has reportedly joined up with the Civil War cast. According to reports out of Germany, where filming is currently taking place, Tom Holland is apparently there to make his big debut in the Marvel universe. No photos of him with the cast and crew have appeared just yet, and it’s likely Marvel will do everything in its power to keep things under wraps. But there you have it; Spider-Man is in the building. [Latino-Review]
Scooby-Doo animated featured
Rather than re-boot the live-action Scooby-Doo train wreck—OK, it wasn’t that bad—Warner Bros. wants to bring back the animated Mystery Machine. Announced earlier this week, the film is currently set for a Sept. 21, 2018 release, which is so unbearably far away, but it gives the studio plenty of time to get the cast, art, and story just right.
Wonder Woman’s costume in Batman v Superman
Batman v Superman costumer designer Michael Wilkinson recently sat down with People’s Choice to talk about the upcoming film. In it, he mentions one particularly interesting bit about Wonder Woman’s costume, which will contain some subliminal Kryptonian script. There is ancient Greek script on Wonder Woman’s weapons too, Wilkinson said, giving us something to look out for. [PeoplesChoice]
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Jungle Cruise movie
Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride is famous because of its painful humor and laughable animatronics. So of course Disney wants to turn that into a movie. Based on the ride, Disney says The Rock will star in whatever this movie will be. You can bet it will have plenty of adventure, humor and even a few bad puns. The Rock is also set to star in a Baywatch reboot, a movie about the Rampage video game, and another Disney movie called Moana, which we saw at D23 last weekend. [HollywoodReporter]
Star Trek Beyond photos
As filming for Star Trek Beyond gets underway, the first set photos are beginning to trickle out, and the first set reveal the character of Sofia Boutella, who appeared in Kingsman: The Secret Service. It’s unclear what alien race Boutella’s character belongs to, though people have speculated she’s part of the Nibirians. Other big stars to show up include Chris Pine, Anton Yeltsin and Simon Pegg. Victor Frankenstein trailer
Told from Igor’s perspective, it shows the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man who created the legend we know today.
Victor Frankenstein is scheduled for a Nov. 25 release.
