It’s been over a year since Samsung bought SmartThings to secure a stake in the home automation market. Now the company is finally ready to roll out a new Hub for its smart home platform.

SmartThings announced the news this week, promising a new Hub next month followed by other connected products in the near future. There’s also a redesigned version of its smartphone app coming soon. When the Hub launches you’ll be able to pick it up from SmartThings, Samsung or Amazon, though your old model should still work just fine.

Beyond releasing its own smart home products, Samsung has been pushing SmartThings as a platform for third-party gadgets. The South Korean giant even poached a Google exec to help with the effort. It won’t be easy though. Samsung faces some tough competition in the smart home arena from Google’s Project Brillo and Apple’s HomeKit, which already works with a handful of third-party products.
