Call this revelation the “Joey Davidson Delight.” Our Senior Gaming Editor is both a huge fan of Avalanche’s Just Cause and SEGA’s mostly defunct Super Monkey Ball franchises, and the two franchise couldn’t have less to do with one another. Causing chaos through infrastructural warfare and balancing monkeys tumbling down slanted platforms.
Absolutely zero common ground, yet leave it to Avalanche to combine the two.
A new video journal from Just Cause 3 Director Roland Lesterline lays out the details of a new challenge mode inspired by SEGA’s cult franchise. Rico jumps from an airplane, and just like our simian friend, Ai Ai, he must use his new wing suit to glide himself through rings. The closer towards the middle, the better the score, and the more rings he crosses through, the higher the combo gets.
Rewards for the game include upgrades for the wing suit and bragging rights on a leaderboard.
It’s not really my kind of thing, but someone is going to have to pry Joey from the controller to stop him from being too obsessive over those high scores. “Be Happy! You completed the Beginner level! Try a harder level! Be Happy! You completed the Beginner level! Try a harder level! Be Happy! You completed the Beginner level! Try a harder level!”
Just Cause 3 will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Dec. 1.
