The Witcher 3‘s New Game Plus mode is live on Xbox One right now, and should be hitting PlayStation 4 and PC shortly.
The last of the sixteen pieces of downloadable content promised by developer CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, New Game Plus, adds a mode to the game that lets you take your character from a completed save state – complete with levels, abilities, arms and armor – and restart the game with him on another difficulty level. You can start on a lower or higher level, though the monsters will be harder than they’d be otherwise, as everything starts at level 30 (including protagonist Geralt if he was less than that upon completion).
This will be a great way to squeeze even more playtime out of an already massive game, as well as a way to experiment with different quest lines to force a different outcome.
Aside from the sixteen downloadable packs, which have included quests, new outfits for NPCs, and new hairstyles for Geralt among other things, the developer has made some substantial changes to the game. There’s a chest for Geralt to store extra armor in, new menu items have been added, and there’s even a new option that changes the way Geralt moves. This is the final downloadable content, but it doesn’t sound like the team is anywhere near done improving the game to reflect player requests even as they continue to work on the two upcoming expansion packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which promise to add another 30 hours of content to the game, including at least one new map area to travel to.
