It was recently announced that Diablo III had sold through over 30 million copies. It was only a matter of time before we heard something about a new entry.
Blizzard posted a new job listing this week that hints at an early-stage Diablo project, something they may not have even started yet.
The listing calls for an art director for an “Unannounced Project” labeled as being part of the Diablo license. They’re looking for someone who has been in video games for 10 years or more with at least 5 years as a lead artist or art director and able to manage a large staff. Those few requirements alone narrow the field pretty quickly without even going further down the list. They’re looking for someone serious about the franchise and someone to act as a leader on the project – it doesn’t sound like they’re too deep in. This doesn’t sound like an expansion.
They even list this as a “plus” in the job requirements section: “A passion for games with a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise.”
Whoever they hire to “help develop Blizzard’s next hit game” – another hint they’re not talking about an expansion – they have a big project on their hands.
