Galaxy S7: Samsung already testing a Snapdragon 820 processor

Last month we heard a rumor that Samsung was testing multiple processors for the Galaxy S7. Now a fresh leak appears to confirm one new chip that could end up powering the future flagship phone.

A leaked internal document published by Weibo tipster KJuma offers a look at Samsung’s upgrade plans for Android M. The list includes a Snapdragon 820 chip, suggesting the company is already testing out the new processor. Of course it’s likely multiple chips are being tested, but this seems to confirm the Galaxy-maker already has its hands on the latest from Qualcomm.

The Snapdragon 820 is expected to feature a 64-bit architecture, a Hydra CPU that’s 35 percent faster than the Snapdragon 810, and a A350 GPU that’s 40 percent faster than its predecessor. The company is expected to use a 14-nanometer manufacturing process instead of the old 20nm method. The chip was previously rumored to debut this week at a conference in Los Angeles, but it turns out we’ll have to wait a bit longer for an official look.

If Samsung really has the Snapdragon 820, we’re guessing at least a few other companies have their hands on the new processor as well, so it may not be too long we learn more about the mobile chip.
