Dark Souls creator ready to try something new, exploring sci-fi

During E3 this past year, Eric Frederiksen, another writer here at TechnoBuffalo, and I sat in on a gameplay demo of Dark Souls III. The series creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, was present for the presentation, and he even opened himself up to a bit of Q & A afterwards. It was then that he expressed interest in doing something new after Dark Souls III.

Consider that interest expressed once more. Miyazaki spoke with Gamespot at gamescom last week, and he offered a little tease that, yes, more projects are coming soon.

”Dark Souls is my life’s work…Everything I came up with for Dark Souls 3 is based on my personal preferences. However, Dark Souls 3 is also actually the turning point for the franchise…

…I do want to work on something new…I’m pleased to hear people are interested in seeing that.”

Miyazaki indicated that several new projects are in the works at From Software, but he didn’t give any details about themes or release timelines.

Gamespot did, however, ask him if he’s considered the sci-fi or mech genres for his next project. His response? He said that he definitely wants to bring the Miyazaki touch to those genres.

So, how about it? Would you play a game with Souls’ mechanics set on, say, a massive space colony? I would.
