Exist Archive looks great in motion, releases in Japan on Nov. 26

So far, all we’ve gotten from Spike Chunsoft’s and tri-Ace’s Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky is a batch of screenshots and gameplay information that sounds a heck of a lot like tri-Ace’s undisputed masterpiece, Valkyrie Profile.

Behold, though, the first trailer for this new JRPG has just been release, and it’s a beaut!

There is a whole lot going on here, isn’t there? I’m hoping that tri-Ace hasn’t complicated the game beyond its need like it sometimes tends to do. We have a dynamic battle system that indeed resembles Valkyrie Profile with rapid-fire character attack chains and a wide range of battle formations.

On top of that, we have 2D dungeons which require some surprisingly tight platforming and other skills to fully explore. I’m hoping the jump mechanic isn’t as floaty as it looks. These characters don’t seem to have much real-world weight to them. Nothing is worse than floaty platformers.

It’s a small complaint. I like what I see, and I hope the game does well enough to make it to the English speaking world. The game will be released for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan on Nov. 26.
