Amazon already makes it incredibly simple to buy stuff. The one-click buy button can be a dangerous thing. But the company’s Dash Button—which, oh by the way, isn’t a joke—brings that convenience to an entirely new level. Literally press a button tied to a specific product (trash bags, laundry detergent, water, etc.) and it will instantly be ordered.
Each brand-specific button is $5 as long as you’re a Prime member, and there are 18 to choose from. The point is to streamline the busy lives of parents, professionals, students, teenagers, mail men, etc. Rather than go online, search for a product you frequently buy, add it to your cart, and then click purchase, you can just use Amazon Dash. It’s the most direct way to buy something and have it sent to your front door.
“Dash Button comes with a reusable adhesive and a hook so you can hang, stick, or place it right where you need it,” Amazon explained back in March. “Keep Dash Button handy in the kitchen, bath, laundry, or anywhere you store your favorite products. When you’re running low, simply press Dash Button, and Amazon quickly deliver household favorites so you can skip the last-minute trip to the store.”
Amazon says that when a product is ordered an alert will be sent to your phone, giving you a chance to cancel. That’s a relief, because we all know how tempting it is to press buttons. Having an overzealous child press Dash a few hundred times would be a major reason not to add a Dash Button to your pantry. But all in the name of convenience, I suppose.
