2K Games and the official Mafia social media accounts have announced an announcement (don’t you love these?). Mafia III will officially be revealed next week on August 5.

If you can’t make out the smaller print in that image, it says that we’re getting a trailer on August 5, 2015 at 8:00am ET. We’ll be posting all that news as well.
What does the image say about what’s coming in Mafia III? A few small things, really. We have four, we assume, members of the mafia standing over a man bound near a swamp. There’s a woman amongst the four standing, and her hairstyle and the cars that flank them suggest we might be seeing a game set in the 70s or early 80s.
Then there’s the swamp itself. It has three gators cresting in it. Mafia III will have at least some portion set somewhere along the Gulf or the Everglades. That’s a new location for the series.
We’ll know more once the trailer drops, of course.
Despite its flaws, I loved my time with Mafia II. It had some of the smartest writing for an open world tale I’ve experienced in quite some time. If the mechanics match the storytelling for this entry, we might have a stellar game on our hands.
Stay tuned for more as it comes. We’ll have the trailer next week, too.
