There are a ton of new smartphones coming down the pipeline, some of which are going to be unveiled as soon as next week. Thanks to plenty of leaks and rumors, we have a general idea of the new phones that we can expect in the coming weeks and months.
Just next week, for example, we’re expecting the OnePlus 2, the Moto G (2015) and the Moto X (2015). Then in August, we’re expecting to see the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are due another month later, in September, and we’re sure there are plenty of other phones scheduled to debut during IFA in September.
While we already have the G4, M9 and Galaxy S6, three awesome phones, these new devices are set to change the game in the coming weeks and months. Which one are you most excited about?
1. OnePlus 2
Next week OnePlus will unveil the highly anticipated OnePlus 2. We already know a bit about it, like that it will pack a 13-megapixel camera, a fingerprint reader, 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 processor and a price tag that comes under $450? The actual price is going to be really key here, and wider availability is also going to be important, but if OnePlus executes with a really killer phone that costs almost half as much as other flagships — and takes incredible pictures — this is going to change the game. Here’s a look at some early camera samples:
2. Galaxy Note 5
The Galaxy Note 5 might come as soon as August, when Samsung has a rumored event in New York City. We’re expecting one of the best displays ever, a new S Pen, additional software support for the aforementioned S Pen, Qi/PMA wireless charging, possible microSD card support (depending on which rumor you follow), and USB-C.
This sounds like the powerhouse phablet to beat, especially if you consider that Samsung is probably going to add bonus features like Gear VR support. On the other hand, it’s going to probably cost a lot more than phones like the OnePlus 2. Speaking of Samsung, next up is its biggest competitor.
3. iPhone 6s / iPhone 6s Plus
We’re expecting the iPhone 6s in September with the iPhone 6 Plus. Rumor has it Apple is going to use stronger aluminum to prevent any sort of #bendgate from happening again. We should also see upgraded cameras, maybe a better display, improved Touch ID and, of course, iOS 9 out of the gate. Apple probably has some more surprises but we won’t know about them until closer to launch, or until the phones are official.
4. Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is expected to offer a similar form factor as the Galaxy S6 Edge, just in a larger package. It won’t offer the S Pen and other features that the Galaxy Note 5 will pack, but it should still pack a beautiful design and enough power to please Android enthusiasts. Rumor has it this will make a debut in August alongside the Galaxy Note 5, too. Think you’ll grab this, the Note 5 or one of the other devices on this list?
5. Moto X (2015)
The Moto X (2015) may come next week, when Motorola is hosting a press conference in New York City. The company has won over consumers with its large amount of customization options through Moto Maker, and this year’s device sounds like a solid upgrade over last year’s. One key area to watch is going to be the camera, where Motorola has fallen a bit short in the past. Is this on your radar, or are you more interested in raw power over customization?
6. Moto G (2015)
It’s not a flagship, but if the early leaks are any indication this is going to be a budget smartphone worth considering. Rumor has it we’ll see the Moto G (2015) added to Moto Maker, allowing for plenty of color choices and customization. We’re also expected LTE and a 1080p display out of the gate so, if it comes with a really low price tag, this might give other affordable unlocked phones a real run for their money.
We know there are other phones coming, too. Sony is expected to release new Xperia devices sometime soon, and Microsoft’s Windows 10 Lumia Cityman and Talkman phones aren’t expected until this fall, so we’ll revisit when those are closer to launch.
