Meerkat is bringing its live streaming app to GoPro cameras in an effort to stay competitive in the live streaming market. The news was announced this week at VidCon, an online video conference in California, according to CNBC.

Streaming from your GoPro is as simple as connecting your iPhone to the high-definition camera. Just launch the Meerkat app and shake your phone to start. The feature is limited to the GoPro Hero 3 for now, though a future update will add support for the Hero 4. There’s still no word on Android, though hopefully that’s in the works as well.

Meerkat may be trailing its Twitter-owned rival Periscope when it comes to popularity, but the underdog app has proven itself to be creative and nimble. Recent updates have added Facebook integration along with a Cameo feature that lets other people pop into your stream. It’s unclear what specific update (if any) will give Meerkat the advantage, but GoPro support seems like a pretty good idea.
