SEGA and Pokemon developer Game Freak have finally gotten around to releasing their 2D action platforming collaboration, Tembo the Badass Elephant. The game will be available today for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. And somehow, people still have a problem with the title? How could you?
What’s the best way to describe this game? Well, obviously it channels the mascot platformers of the early 90s, only instead of Sonic’s ‘tude, it tosses in a bit of today’s modern flair for ironic expletives. The trailer comes off as a cross between Sonic the Hedgehog and Donkey Kong Country with smart boss fights that look more like puzzle segments than action ones.
And quite surprisingly, hype is quite high. Despite living in a day and age when anyone can make their own ironic 2D platformer, Game Freak has been garnering praise from around the Internet for its creation. Critics who have played it seem to love it, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing how Game Freak and SEGA have collaborated before on an excellent platformer, the one and only Pulseman.
What, haven’t heard of it? Check it out!
