The Pebble Time is now available at Best Buy—and will soon roll out to other big box stores. The smartwatch has thus far only been available through Pebble’s own website. But beginning today, consumers can skip the Internet queue and pickup the wearable in-store (U.S.-only). That’s great news for Pebble, especially if it wants to stave off the growing presence of the Apple Watch, which is supposedly doing much better than initially thought. Go figure.
Customers can pick up the Pebble Time in red, white and black for $199 through Best Buy, and Target starting Aug. 17. Not a bad deal considering the price of some of Pebble’s main competitors; the Apple Watch starts at $349, while Android Wear devices range from $129 up to $349.
The Pebble Time is completely different from earlier Pebble wearables in that it introduces an e-paper screen with a completely new UX, one that’s designed around a “timeline” ethos. We like the device, though it’s clear that Android Wear and Apple Watch are quickly overshadowing the small startup.
