Microsoft makes Windows 10 USB drives available to pre-order on Amazon

With optical drives no longer being built into modern laptops, Microsoft is making Windows 10 available on USB sticks for easier upgrading — and you can pre-order yours now from Amazon. Just don’t think you’ll get it when Windows 10 launches on July 29.

Both Windows 10 Home and Pro editions are available to order right now from Amazon.com, priced at $119.99 and $199.99 respectively — and they both have release dates of August 30. That means you’ll have to wait a month to get your hands on the platform after its initial release.

For unknown reasons, Microsoft isn’t yet offering Windows 10 USB drives through its own online store, or through other retailers. However, the software giant did confirm to VentureBeat that USB drives will be available “in retail channels shortly after launch.”

There is a small chance the drives will end up shipping earlier from Amazon, and VentureBeat believes they “probably” will — but until that launch date changes, you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much.
