Sonos PLAY:1 Tone limited edition speakers unveiled

by Todd Haselton | July 15, 2015July 15, 2015 8:00 pm PDT

Sonos on Wednesday introduced new limited edition PLAY: 1 speakers, dubbed PLAY:1 Tone. They’re similar to the standard PLAY:1 speakers, but are available in limited edition colors and at limited quantities. You’ll also pay a bit more.

The PLAY:1 Tone speakers are available in absolute black and pristine white, which means you’re getting a pure black or pure white speaker, where the hue carries over across the grill and throughout the device. The standard speakers, in contrast, have a gray speaker grill. Sonos said the limited edition speakers offer a soft matte finish.

Sonos expects the new speakers to sell out quickly; it made 5,000 of each color for global sale. The last time it sold limited edition Blue Note PLAY:1 speakers, they were out of stock within a matter of hours. You can order the Sonos PLAY:1 Tone beginning on Tuesday, July 21 at 10 a.m. PT (or 10 a.m. CET for European customers) for $250. That’s $50 more than the regular model.
