We already had a few hints that Apple was gearing up to refresh its iPods, with some rumors suggesting it was going to happen sometime this week. Now a new report says Apple plans to refresh the existing family today, and will offer a major update to the iPod touch.
9to5Mac said it has learned Apple will refresh the iPod touch to bring it more in line with the iPhone 6, complete with a 64-bit processor, an M chip for motion tracking, iOS 8.4 with Apple Music, a new 128GB capacity that will cost $399 and gold, dark blue and pink color options. Touch ID doesn’t seem to be included with the new iPod touch.
The color options are expected to carry over to the iPod shuffle and iPod nano, 9to5Mac said, though it doesn’t seem like those will get major hardware updates, if any at all.
If you’ve been holding out for the refresh, the wait is almost over. We’ll let you know as soon as the new iPods appear.
Update: It’s back and the new iPods are here.
