Another week, another Dragon Quest game announced. This series is all over the place recently, well, except the non-Japanese speaking world that is. Following in the footsteps of last week’s Dragon Quest Builders announcement, Square Enix has followed up with an announcement that fans have been requesting for far too long: Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Joker 2 were both released on the Nintendo DS, and they were even localized for North America back when Dragon Quest had a presence in the English speaking world. However, their failure to put up fantastic numbers in the States often sets them up as the ones to blame for Square Enix’s lack of confidence in the series, especially the second one. A “last straw” so to say.
Following the Joker games, the original Game Boy Color Dragon Quest Monsters games were remade for the Nintendo 3DS, meaning so this Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 will be the first original game in the sub-series to be released for the Nintendo 3DS. At this point in the handheld’s lifetime, in the sliver of a chance we see any of these Monsters games in the States, like the main line remakes, it will most likely be this new one.
Not keeping my fingers crossed, though. Square Enix has to cope with both Pokemon and Yokai Watch in the coming years.
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 will have new systems, monsters and connectivity for fans to enjoy with the power of the Nintendo 3DS. Akira Toriyama will only be providing the title logo. No release date has been set yet, and not even a screenshot or official art piece. The above image is from its predecessor Joker 2.
