Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’s iconic plane scene inspired by Uncharted 3

Uncharted 3

The most iconic scene we’ve witnessed so far from Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation has been Tom Cruise dangling from the side of an airplane. If you think you might have seen such a scene in recent memory, then you certainly have if you are a fan of the Uncharted games.

When asked about his inspiration for the scene on his Twitter account, Director Christopher McQuarrie cited Uncharted, most likely referring to a similar scene that takes place in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Our hero Nathan Drake leaps onto a plane’s landing gear at just the right moment to be pulled up into the hull and soon finds himself dangling perilously out of the back on a dangling truck.

Of course, there is a huge difference between putting a digital hero on the outside of a flying plane and putting a genuine human being on the outside of a flying plane. Not to take away from Naughty Dog’s sense of cinematic gameplay, but that Mission Impossible scene is just a little too amazing.

Uncharted 3 co-Director Justin Richmond replied to the comment, thrilled to be named.

Now, all there is to do is just compare the two side by side. By all means:
