Rumor has it the Galaxy Note 5 is set to launch a month earlier than expected. Now a new report out of Korea is backing up those claims while revealing that the device could debut alongside the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in August.
The decision to release the new Galaxy Note early is apparently an effort to distance the device from Apple’s new iPhones, which are still expected to arrive in September. Analysts speaking with The Korea Herald argue that the Galaxy Note 5 could cannibalize the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as a result. However, it seems more likely Samsung is simply offering shoppers a choice between classic slate and curved handset, similar to how it sold the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year.
Both Samsung smartphones are expected to feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, a glass-backed design, and black, silver, gold or white color options. The Galaxy Note 5 will also likely pack an S Pen and a new Exynos 7422 processor. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus could be a little less high-end with a Snapdragon 808 chip and no stylus.
Samsung still hasn’t confirmed plans for a big announcement in August, but if the company is planning on revealing the Galaxy Note 5 next month, we’ll probably know for sure pretty soon.
